How to Create a Healthy Self Care Routine During The Covid-19 Lockdown. Part 2

Practicing a good self care routine is really important especially during this uncertain time when our regular routines have been turned upside down and we find ourselves feeling distant and disconnected from those we love.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is create a routine and stick to it. Just as we have a daily morning routine where we get up, shower and get ready for the day. It is also important to have a daily self care routine.

So I’ve collated 20 self care tips that will help put you on a frugal fast track to feeling more peaceful and balanced during this time and beyond.

None of them cost money. They simple but effective as is always the way.

11.Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Easier said than done I suppose when you are in the middle of a lockdown. But it doesn’t have to be something as drastic as a sky dive or a bungee jump. YouTube is the perfect place to learn something new, a new language, learn to sew, cook something you’ve made before or even start a blog.

12. Edit Your Social Media Feeds

I’ve seriously reduced my time on social media, especially during these crazy times. I found it had become a really depressing and miserable place and seeing those negative posts day after day was really starting to have an effect on me. So I muted various groups and pages and I joined lots of gardening and housewife groups where I could be among like minded people. If you find you want to edit your friends lists, you can just mute them for a while, there’s no need to delete.

13. Walk

Many people are currently working from home at the moment. But if and when it’s possible walk to work, if that’s not possible for you get off the bus a few stops earlier and walk part of the way. If you drive in to work, try the scenic route.

14. Mindfullness

So many people are not present in their day and revert to autopilot. Pick a chore and while you are doing it, really pay attention to what you are doing, how it feels and the sensations you get from it. When I have a household chore I really dislike such as cleaning the bathroom, I focus on it and show gratitude for having a bathroom I am able to clean and use.

15. Goof Around

Don’t take life so seriously every minute of the day. It’s a very odd time we are living in at the moment with all the restrictions upon us. Find a few minutes to have fun, tell a joke, read a funny book, make someone laugh, reminisce about a happy memory or even play a board game. I’m trying to get my husband to play Monopoly with me.

16. Something off the To Do List

This is something I’ve been working on lot. I’ve tidied cupboards, fixed buttons onto clothes, shortened jeans, changed lightbulbs, cleaned the sofas and got the garden into some sort of order. Remember though, there are only so many hours in a day, don’t burn yourself out.

17. Meditate

Start the day with a small meditation. Focus on your thoughts and feelings and how those emotions show up in your body. Never suppress your feelings. Always acknowledge them let them out.

18. De-Clutter

This has been one of my favourites. I have recycled and donated a lot of unwanted stuff. I got rid of all my dust collectors and cleared my kitchen work tops by putting things away in cabinets. It’s a very calming feeling that decends over you when you remove excess stuff and give yourself more space to breathe.

19. Unplug

Switch it all off for an hour or so and read a book or go out for a walk and appreciate all the beauty that you just can’t experience while absorbed in social media. Enjoy the peace and quiet you get when everything is switched off or on aeroplane mode. All those annoying distractions silenced for an hour or so…Bliss.

20. Do something That Is Just For You

Do one thing each day that makes you happy. It can be as simple as a cup of tea in complete silence or a long hot bubble bath with the door locked and glass of wine.
